Is it just me? Or does this look like D-Day on steroids?

Post by HelpGomp »

I sadly lost access to my main account. But for those of you who remember me. I am memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=14 - Gomp! :) [Tested the lost password, but I get no mail what so ever..]

Anyways.. I shall just use this, till some might help me reactivate my own..

I just wanted to share this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXV4eR8 ... detailpage

Is it just me? Or is that a MOD that ripped us off completely?

PS: It is not a MOD no more, but a standalone game.. But it started as a MOD ..
I have sadly lost the password for my own account ..
This is me: memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=14 ..

(I hope some admin will help me recover it. But I can not just idle by while I wait, hence I created this temporary user to be able to partake in the forum.)

Yeah.. But I never seen it done so darn WELL! .. Many have tried to copy it. But it never had the same feel as the Quake2 D-Day MOD ..

Instead of just stealing the idea of iron-sight, they seem to have copied it pixel by pixel.. Just bettering it! ..

I think I will have to get that there game! .. :D

Heh. Quit reading now if you want to keep on believing the Vipersoft guys invented the warm water:

Hidden & Dangerous did it in 1999, it was a rather shitty attempt (though, it actually didn't look any worse from an aesthetical point of view, look at the backside of our Thompson...), but they did have it, so the idea of D-Day Normandy being the first to come up with the concept is overthrown as "It was first released in 2000 as a mod for Quake 2."

Now, I'm not going to say H&D came up as the first one with it either, there's a very good chance someone else already did it before them as well.

Don't get me wrong though, I think y'all well enough how much I like D-Day, otherwise I'd have left as soon as I got here without making videos and reviews. :)

EDIT: The current no-crosshair pro-ironsight games (RO + the DH & MN mods) give a rat's shit about realistic gameplay, nobody does that in D-Day Normandy.

No thanks, I'm happy at college. And for somewhat realistic/tactical WWII shooters, I'm good as well. Got plenty to choose from after buying/getting almost 40 WWIIFPS's + mods in the past ten years, that's why I don't jump by dday as much anymore as I used to when I just got here, got addicted to some others :D

I still love to play the b'hopbecausefuckyou-style D-Day as well from time to time, but getting spawnkilled match after match by some retarded flamer isn't fun, it's just, well, retarded :P

One or some of the original developers of Dday went on to work with Red Orchestra (the original, a mod for some game I can't remember), and I would assume he worked with RO2 as well. So yes it is probably dday on steroids.

That would explain A LOT! .. It seems to have the fast pace and all that which makes D-Day for Quake 2 fun! ..

Now I really got to get me that game! :D

I will not stop playing this MOD of course. It still has its unique charm! :D

Hehe.. See if you are able to spawnkill on my map "madex.bsp" ..

Fafner as the D-Day god he became, created a field that can be put in place to prevent that all together..

What reminded me more of what DDay wanted to be (with the campaigns to push the factions back and forth) is Heroes and Generals.

http://www.heroesandgenerals.com/community/

They are also implementing features that could "help the front". So you'd be somewhere with your tablet or phone, unable to play the FPS. What you can do is some sort of minigames that gives the troops that are actively playing more resources or whatever it is that you are creating.

I'd love to create a DDay team and show these noobs how a WW2 FPS with truesights is played.

Then play it! I've been looking for teammates but the Allied side is 1 big mess of uncoordinated noobs. And we're also outnumbered 1/3 in the overal war. There are simply more Axis players, which is a shame for the sake of balance.

Definetly a MUST PLAY lol!

But people like games for their creativity, when I found this game I really liked it, I know it looks like some game back made in 2006. But hey! Not everyone can make a game.

The first Red Orchestra was Tripwires answer to Day of Defeat Source with a Russian twist. Tripwire moved away from the source engine as soon as the new unreal engine came out. I believe most of their titles are on Unreal. They had wide success with Killing Floor. I think the RO series is a cult following kind of deal. Tripwire is also based in the UK, so I have no idea why they were interested in a Russian theme. Likely because most WWII games focused mainly on the US vs Germany.
