I miss getting stoned with [1RB]sika on irc and playing with people's trivia bots. Sad as that is.

Thats one person I'd love to get a hold of, [1RB]sika. Anyone know what happened to him?? He would pop up out of nowhere, say something and disappear again occasionally but its probably been two years or so since I saw any sign of him. I always picture him as a busker, he was decent at guitar last I talked to him.

Umm no, not at all.

We used to have quite a large and active community, dday is nearly 10 years old.

Yea I don't understand it, The same time D-Day came out as a mod for quake2, Day Of Defeat came out as a mod for halflife and I play both but Day Of Defeat still has hundreds of servers that stay full around the clock after 10 years. The games are exactly alike down to the bunnying rule. I guess it just has to do with the community.

Quake 3 was the rage when Dday came out. Dday was already outdated from the day it was released. DoD came out some time after dday, but Half life/counterstrike was still extremely popular unlike Quake 2. And to be fair, DoD does look a lot better than Dday.

Still waiting on that manor map

;P

I never got into DoD, Ibby says it's similar and in a lot of ways it is but there's subtle differences that totally turned me off. Lack of truesight was one thing, but there were other things I just didn't like that I can't put my finger on.

I thought it was released? I remember playing it a few times. I don't have it anymore (lost all of my old quake2/programming work a few years ago after a reformat when I thought it was backed up. :( I wish I still had the Red Baron and Last Team standing code so I could finish them...

If anyone still has it, I think that it would be Julhelm.

I think the last message he left in the forums he came in bleeding from his vagina and calling someone out for using his textures and not giving him credit, even though I sincerely doubt he had anything to do with their creation beyond perhaps converting them to .wals

The true reason D-Day never took off is because THERE IS NO HELP to start your own server.
[ the year of 2001 ]
I have posted time and time again for help on starting a server and also using Q2 admin, I would only get lead in the wrong direction, but would eventually figure it out, now I would need to get Q2 Admin working to enable gamemap voting and vote kicking, when I asked for help with Q2 Admin they would just copy and paste the bullshit instructions into the forums, I would ask them to copy & paste there Q2 Admin files currently running on there servers ( minus there passwords ), that is when you get NO RESPONCE other than:
Read the directions
I even offered to pay these guys some real money such as $100, $200, still no help, then I offered to pay first, still no help.

[ the year of 2010 ]
After 9 fuckin years, I finally got my D-Day server running along with Q2 Admin, and it is not even the correct version, its a beta of 5.0 that runs on Redhat and CentOS style versions of Linux, I ask for the current verson, they only post a download to bullshit, probably an .mp3 renamed to .so

Now the admins are reading this right now and laughing do to the fact that it took me 9 fuckin years to get my server running, they dont realize that by not helping people start there own servers they just push people away.
