(29th)JiggyHoot Looking to setup a new server again

Post by (29th)JiggyHoot » Fri Sep 16, 2016 11:38 am

Hey all,

it's been a LOOONG time since I have been back on here.. I honestly didn't think people were still playing DDay although over the years I still talk to people about how cool the "DDay" gaming days were and how I used to be called Pie Face from my sniping abilities (at the time).

Now that I see that there still is an active community. How hard is it to get a server up and running again? I am only about a Decade behind on things. lol

Unfortunately I lost all of my old server info and Data is there still something like the DDMA to grab everything needed to get back up and running again. Is it worth doing?

It's good to still see some familiar faces out there (Munf, Dirk, Faf, Stokes, etc.) Wondering if everything can run on Win7 VM or if I need to go back to WinXP.

Any help and/or suggestions would be great. It would be US server.

Thanks Hans any links for getting a server up and running? The old links I have don't work anymore.

Hey Mac Sog,

OMG that tid bit is hilarious. I miss my D-Day days. I remember some people literally thought I was a bot when I would play as sniper. Then I would have some fun with bunnies and change the gravity when then bunnied and then let them splatter to the ground lol.

Where did you find that chat log from?

Good to talk to some old vets of the game again.

I would recommend using Win7 over WinXP due to security concerns. I run mine under Linux, now under Docker. The main download should have all you need except for the q2admin if you choose to run it.

@Mac Sog 2: Dang Mac I have a feeling SOMEWHERE I have all of my old stuff on a HD somewhere, but with having made 4 moves since the server was last active who knows what Safe place it is in now. haha.

@Dirk: Dirk I will give that a go. Does that have all maps and everything as well? Been entertaining company so I haven't had a chance to grab it yet.
