J. Belgiers' European D-Day Server

Post by JoeyBelgier »

Well, as I stated in my first topic, I'm going to try to host a server. The computer it's running on is located in Belgium, Europe.

It's up right now, though with nothing special, no modifications, no nothing. If you got some tips on better hosting, with better maps/mods/anything, feel free to post it here.

You can access the server with this adress: DDAYBelgier.no-IP.org

TeRRoR said that the server software included in the Full Install wasn't up to date anymore? Where can I find the newest version? (:

Also, I'll buy a switch and I'll get an older desktop so I can host D-Day 24/7, maybe I'll gather the stuff by the end of the week already.

1. Extract this to your dday folder
2.Then extract dday5038-src in the same directory.

you don't have to extract anything unless you are running a linux server. Then you have to compile it too.

Seeing you're Belgian, didn't find a proper way to pronounce your name in Dutch, so I tried it in French and it sounded logic to me xD

Well, bought me a router today, I just have to contact a friend now to get an extra computer to run a dedicated on. Server might be up sooner than I thought, permanent.

UPDATE

Post by JoeyBelgier »

Alrighty, I bought and installed the router and forwarded port 27910! :D
Now just a question, what kind of server would you guys like?

I was thinking of a simple server with no extra maps, following the campaign.
In other terms, D-Day as it was meant to be played, no map voting. I'd only include the maps with bot support AND put the amount of bots to the maximum (9 per team?) so there's always something to do. I wouldn't enable map voting as we already have Dirks' server for that kind of gameplay.

I think that 4-5 bots per team is enough.

Enable map voting anyway, because Dirk's server is in the US. There is no reason not to enable it.

Then you will have to install q2admin which isn't so easy.

Well, if someone'd help me with that.. sure.
Also, where to download more maps? I've read about 100's of custom user-made maps, but fail to find anything much of'm.
