Your PC's - Specs

Post by Mangal » Wed May 11, 2011 6:16 pm

Hi, I was just wondering what systems you were running DDay on.

I have a celeron 2ghz with 512mb ram. Quite shabby really. Although I have a p4 3ghz with a 28" lcd tv waiting to be refreshed and used in the loft/workshop. Looking forward to that, but I was wondering who had the best and who had the crappest system (obviously me).

Cheers

AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 ghz)
8 GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5770
Ubuntu 10.10 64bit, running DDay on Wine 1.2

P.S. If you're thinking about getting the newest Ubuntu, 11.04 Natty Narwhal, don't. Just don't. I just finished reinstalling everything from scratch after I foolishly "upgraded" to that crap. The desktop environment should have been called "Useless" not "Unity".

whoops, just saw 4, not p4....work on that man. i built my machine over new years for around $400. you can get quad cores cheap if you go with socket 775 but its way more worth it to go for a newer socket id say.

You guys are running heavyweight machines. I have a p4 3ghz with 750mb ram waiting to be put together, but I still have a long way to compete with most of you guys.

I run dday on the basic engine, I would use egl but its causes speed probs.

Looking forward to elg gaming. Might have it up n running next week.

That's my laptop, currently running on Win 7 Ultimate.
Right now I'm on my 'new' desktop PC (secondhand out of a gaming store):

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3GHz x2
2GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT
Windows 7 (bought it with XP on it, could run GTA 4 then, now with 7 I can still run quite about everything except for GTA.)

My PC:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 3 Ghz
5 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD3870
running on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

It's some years old, but still fast enough. 8)

I've also a Fujistu Siemens Laptop with Core2Duo 7380 and 4 GB Ram running Windows Vista Home Premium. But it's in the living room and my kids would watch me playing, so I didn't install D-Day on it.

I have that laptop for quite a few years already and I got the desktop because it was pretty cheap and I had some cash left. As I say, running on Win XP it can run pretty heavy games. Why would I pay €1000 for a watercooled shittower of doom when this €200 box still does the trick.

Cause you can split the difference cost wise and get something reasonable.......anyway, a water cooled machine would run you upwards of five grand if youre doin it right.

To me reasonable means "being capable of running what it has to run",
not "having good specs per se but not using half your resources".

It's just how I think, I get your opinion, but at the moment, I don't have the cash to be like that.
I'm still at high school and I only work 1 month in a year. I bought 2 mopeds, moped parts, a pc, a smartphone, a full HD monitor, new keyboard, mouse, lots of cigarettes and lots of booze with it.

I think you'll get now why I don't buy a PC above my direct requirements :P

Dirty ass hippie? It's just that a computer isn't his highest priority. Got a problem? Why does your opinion on mopeds matter?
